Welcome to the new NAM Property & Investments Blog.

We hope that this blog will be of interest to you - this is where NAM staff will be talking about a variety of issues, from equity markets, property developments, IT matters and business enhancement projects. In other words - about all the things that NAM does, why we do them, and sometimes the reasons why we may do things "a little differently" to more conventional investment firms. We may also comment on social or financial issues, or even matters for pure entertainment value - we're a "work to live" company, so we do actually have lives, and sometimes we'll want to talk about them here.

Some might ask - why do you have a blog when you're an "investment" firm? Well, to put it simply - we're not just about investments. At least not in the traditional, "trapped in a suit-and-tie" corporate sense - we're about investing in ideas and projects that can generate wealth, rather than simply hoping that someone else gets lucky and we somehow manage to get a slice of their good fortune. We believe that we can only be successful in the long term when our customers and partners are also successful in their efforts. Those self-help books that you find in most bookstores will call this looking for the "win-win" scenario, and although by this point in time it may be somewhat cliched, that doesn't invalidate the premise.

We're also just not interested in the tired old single strategy of throwing buckets of money somewhat randomly at the stock and property markets and hoping that one of our investments has a big enough return to cover the other losses and still deliver an overall net positive return. [Just ask a few people close to retirement age in Australia about their superannuation funds to see how they feel about the current state of affairs and how that strategy is working for their super fund.] We believe that there are opportunities for NAM to invest in a broad range of businesses and industries, where we can create or expand investment opportunities that actually create wealth in the economy, rather than just "shuffling money around" from one business to another. We plan to both generate those opportunities ourselves, and also to partner with other groups that aren't in a position to exploit those opportunities without external assistance.

That's just a brief rundown of NAM for now - more "formal" information can be found at our main website, but if you're interested in what we're doing behind the scenes, and why we're doing it - check back here1 often!

  1. This would be a good use for RSS - look for a little orange-and-white icon, or an "RSS" icon in your browser address bar. If you're interested in standalone RSS readers, we recommend FeedDemon for Windows or NetNewsWire for Mac. []
